Rules for Umpires

The Umpiring Chief will select all lower division umpires from a list of applicants.
The Umpiring Chief will be responsible for the cancellation of games due to
weather or field conditions. If unavailable, the Vice President will assume this
responsibility.
Managers, Coaches and Umpires will be notified at the earliest possible time about
cancellations. Notification should be made prior to 5:00PM so as to notify team
players.
The Umpiring Chief shall conduct a meeting with all umpires prior to the start of the
season so as to advise each of the rules of the AGYSL as they apply to each
respective division.
Umpires
Lower division umpires assigned to a League game will arrive no later than fifteen (15)
minutes prior to the start of the game.
If assigned to a particular field or game, umpires must show up for the game.
If an umpire is unable to make the game, said umpire will notify the Umpiring Chief
at the earliest possible time. If unable to reach the Umpiring Chief, every effort
should be made to find a replacement Umpire to fill in if possible.
Umpires will also contact a Board member, Manager or Coach if unable to reach the
Umpiring Chief.
Umpires will be given a list of telephone numbers for Board of Directors, Managers
and Coaches as well as to other Umpires appointed to the AGYSL.
Umpires will have total control of the game they are umpiring. They will use the ASA
rule book and AGYSL approved rules effective in each division.
Umpires will monitor the two (2) teams playing for conduct, verbal abuse or
harassment. Good sportsmanship will be maintained at all times. Umpires will notify
the Board of Directors of any misconduct or rule infractions.
Umpires will wear a face mask and shin guards while umpiring behind the plate.
Chest protector is optional.
Umpires must be properly attired at all League games or functions. Clothing cannot
display or promote alcohol, tobacco, drugs, or violence. Clothing cannot have any
pictures, emblems or writing that is offensive, lewd, vulgar or obscene.
